Chick Outlasts Storm to Score Top-10 Finish at Anderson Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – ANDERSON, Ind. (June 16, 2021) – Mandy Chick garnered her second top 10 of the season last Saturday during a wild night at Anderson Speedway.
Chick kicked off the Great Clips 100 by qualifying 13th quickest among the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance competitors. That lined her up on the inside of the seventh row for the 100-lap main event.
“We ran pretty well in practice all weekend and unloaded really fast thanks to VanDoorn Racing Development,” she said. “We’re always pretty quick out of the box. We made a few small changes and didn’t have to do too much thanks to our excellent notes.
“We started 13th and made our way through to sixth when we had a delay for lightning. In the middle of that it started pouring down rain. There were tornado sirens and crazy things going on during the break. We were just past halfway when that happened. It was super hot out so it was nice to have that break to get out and drink water to hydrate.”
The race was delayed for a couple of hours.
“I didn’t realize there was weather,” Chick said. “They were trying to rush the show. In the middle of the race they said they were going to throw a red flag because they have metal stands and had lightning in the area. Then the tornado sirens started going off. We locked ourselves in our trailers for a couple of hours.”
Chick restarted the race fifth.
"We were really fast the whole race, and making a lot of progress," she said. “I’m constantly learning and still have a few things to learn. We ended up ninth in the feature, after getting moved while racing for fourth. We were a top three or four car, so I know what things I need to work on going forward.
“I’m thankful for everyone who does a lot for our program. I was really hoping for a top five, but we learned a lot. I’m thankful we earned a top 10 and have a car to take to the next race. Every time we go out there we’re learning something new. We’re still hunting for our first pro late model win, and I know we’re getting closer.”
Chick’s next event is July 17 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn., for the Masters of the Pros 150 with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance.
“We’ve been to Nashville several times and have some good setup notes from VanDoorn Racing Development,” she said. “I think we’ll be really sporty at Nashville.”
